I don't know whether this is a good post or not but apparently there was two isolated severe storms between the NSW/QLD border and Granite Belt. Just wanted to report it since probably no body knew. Radar shows them in the dark red section that don't really move in any direction and dissipated. First developed near Stanthorpe near the border according to the radar and the second one near Allora in QLD.

Thanks for reporting this - although I suspected there would be storms some severe, I did not look much further into it given the weak wind shear environment. They would never sustain.

Out of interest how long did these last?

No more than an hour or so according to radar  Yeah but I can tell you I'm getting desperate for a lightning show.

Took a gamble and chased to the Northern Tablelends this day. I observed the southern of the two storms (which was over the Wallangarra to Ballendean area) from near Tenterfield.

It started off as two updrafts:



Then combined into this quite quickly. Pics 2 to 4 are only 15 minutes apart:







Heading north near Wallangarra I observed this funnel. First pic is the whole structure, then a couple of cropped pics I took while driving.

Wow nice pics Michael, that defiantly looks like a tornado or a small landspout, yet not much of a storm situation. Isn't this supposed to be from now until early December to get lots of severe storms?

I checked the radar (Mt Stapylton) one and it shows one storm cell not very severe at Urbenville, near the border. Just wanted to tell everyone.

Also the Bureau issued warning for

Northern Tablelands and parts of the
Northwest Slopes,
Northern Rivers,
Mid North Coast,
Hunter and
Central Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Hi Steven - yes, hopefully it will remain active now after a slow season for most areas.   That feature is just a small funnel, certainly got nowhere near reaching the surface.

It is outrageous becuase I remember last season we had plentiful amount of storms, even your storm chasing page had far more reports than any other season. There could be one reason why, and I think it is the drought or the el nino. Anyway keep those pics on coming.
