just checking latest forecast and it looks like VIC, NSW and QLD are in for a cold blast at the beginning of the week. NSW looks like it will cop the brunt of it on Tuesday.  BOM have issued a graziers alert for NSW

Graziers are advised of COLD, WET and WINDY weather in the
following districts

CENTRAL TABLELANDS
SOUTHERN TABLELANDS
SOUTH WEST SLOPES

Currently a cold westerly airstream lies over southern NSW. An active cold front
is expected to cross southeastern NSW late Tuesday with a strong, very cold
southwest airstream to follow for Wednesday. Showers will increase with the
passage of the front and snow falling to about the 1000 metres level will lower
to about 700 metres for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Winds will tend even
colder, strong and gusty southwesterly with the front and persist through most
of Wednesday. 

The NSW Southern Table lands should be expecting some snow falls

I'm beginning to think the tipster got it wrong here - only got to 11c here today, some 3c below average - and the nights have been colder too -1 to -2 in some parts in southern VIC - and TAS is not fairing much better either with snow down to low levels expected tomorrow as well.

Maybe a small dumping of snow down here might be in the wings (allegedly it is snowing in Bayswater near the Ananconda Camping store...lol)

Yes forecast for zero in western Sydney on Friday morning. And they said Wednesday with a max of 13 in the west could feel like 5 with the wind chill.

Hopefully I won't have to be on a rooftop fixing a microwave!

Quite a significant cold change is spreading over Southeast Australia at present and it should bring snowfalls to quite low levels particularly in Tas and Vic. Should see some into the NSW Central Tablelands and possibly southern parts of the Northern Tablelands.

This is the strongest cold change since mid April - which was also the last time it snowed across the alpine regions.

Noticed the NSW BOM forecast
Forecast for Wednesday
Very cold about the southern and central ranges with scattered showers and light snow to about the 600 to 700 metre level. Isolated showers over the remainder of the southeast and about the western slopes of the northern ranges

Possibility of snow flurries, maybe even a light dusting of snow at Guyra. The southern NT town of Walcha and settlement of Hanging Rock might
fair better.

Early season still, and usually late June - August is the time for the best snow on the NT.

have been in shooters hill , black springs and oberon in central tablelands . snow showers and flurries so far but the moisture moves in around 3pm it looks like so should be good dumps overnight.
was 0.6c at shooters hill with a 50kph westerly wind

Hi,

Just got a call from Nick Moir and he suggests it began to snow heavily around 5pm at Black Springs with the possibility of good cover of approximately 10 to 15cm overnight if it continued at that rate. Nick could not stay the night this time around.

Hi all,
Boy winter is really making itself known today! The temps screamed all the way to 14c at 3pm here.

Does anyone have plans for snow photography in this cold snap? All the best if you head out into it! Keep rugged up and definitely take a jumper or two lol.

Looks like the forecast has it sticking around for s few days so it's time to hunker down and throw the ol' heater on high!

Unfortunately I won't get the chance to get to Oberon etc in the next few days. But if it happens near a weekend I will be up there with a few 4WD mates.

Also hoping for a big dump around Barrington Tops some weekend over winter, will be up there taking photos.

I remember one winter at Gosford, where snow was being reported at Kariong. I found it hard to believe until I drove over a hill at North Gosford and the rain started sticking to the windscreen. May have been more sleet than snow and not settling, but the temperature had dropped pretty quick the 30 minutes before (this was about lunchtime).

We'll keep things on topic - but for your interest this most likely was the cold snap July 1986.

ABC currently reporting snowfalls forecast down to 600 metres over the Southern Highlands and Monaro regions on the 9pm news. As well as gale force winds in some areas.

hello anyone catch prime news early this morning well my mum did and a huge surprise happened.

she said that they reported 4 to 5 cm of snow in Armidale nsw at 6:50am 11/6/2009 and she contacted her friend for one picture at least (lives in Armidale) and mum took 2 pictures of prime news for proof.

A couple of frost pictures this morning from McLeans Ridges looking into the Eltham Valley.





Min temp at my place at the top of the ridge was 5.7, though it certainly looks zero or negative in the valley.

Yesterday morning (11th) the min was 5.0 but no frost was observed. There was breeze most of that night so min temps were more uniform than this morning.

The temp did a quick plummet to 8 here last night then levelled out for quite a while.


Stormboy - the report may have been 4 or 5mm not cm. The pics show only a trace of snow - which matches other reports posted elsewhere by Armidale residents.

wooooweeee it sure is a cold one this moring Ballina AP went right down to 3.1 and my station reached 4.4 this morning very early there was a touch of frost on the ballina oval and our backyard.

More on the Armidale snow --- mums friend put a ruler into the snow until it hit the ground and measured an average of 4 CM in over 10 readings in the area. so 4CM is the total. Armidale also got to -5.2 this morning with Gyura at -5.7 a cold start to winter i must say.

Yes another frost this morning here in Schofields though not as severe as yeterday. It was definitely very white even at 8am yesterday. I have a couple of photographs this morning and may get a chance to post later.

I think we stand a good chance to crack -4C this winter if this trend continues in other words so cold so early in June. July and August often gets more severe frosts.
